The Long Family
Soap-Rack-flower24x22Benefits and Information about Longview Farms Natural Soaps and Other Natural Body Products
Our goat’s milk body bars are unique to most “natural” soaps on the market in two ways –the purity of oils carefully and thoughtfully chosen for the highest cleansing and nourishing effects on the skin, and the invaluable addition of goat’s milk for its healing and restorative properties for our skin.

Longview Farms soaps are crafted with a 100% Pure Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, and Organic Palm Oils empowering them with amazing cleansing and skin softening qualities. No animal products such as tallow or lard are added as these are known to clog the pours of our skin. We take no short cuts. No cheap filler oils or ingredients are used to “stretch” the “good oils”. Our bars cleanse wonderfully, yet are mild and soothing for sensitive skins. Woven in and through our line of body bars, you will find homegrown herbs, spices, mineral pigments, and non-toxic colorants to tint our beautiful soaps –never chemical dyes!! We use a cold-process soap making method, so no additional heating is necessary, leaving our ingredients as close to their natural state as possible!

flower24x22About the Goat’s Milk

You might wonder why we have chosen to capitalize on including goat milk in our natural handcrafted soap bars. Does it really make that much difference in the final bars of soap? Does it merely make our soap “sound special” or does it truly contribute to the goodness of our soap? Here is our secret: we use goat milk in our bars because it makes soap that is incredible for our skin! Goat’s Milk has long been renowned for its beneficial qualities in cosmetics and therapeutic treatments in different cultures from ancient times until today.

Our goal is to create all-natural soap that is mild, gentle, soothing to all skin types and leaves your skin healthier than before –And goat’s milk enables us to achieve this goal! Goat milk soaps are often recommended for those with eczema and our bars have proven the test! We have had customers overjoyed at the healing and restorative properties of our soaps. Raw, whole goat milk is a virtual storehouse of nutrients that enrich and pamper all skin types!

Goat milk is rejuvenating, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing. It contains over fifty nutrients including the vitamins A, B1, B2 (riboflavin), B6, B12, C, D, E, and K, niacin, zinc, and calcium, as well as minerals, amino acids, citric acid, unsaturated fatty acid, proteins, various enzymes and many other nutrients. Goat’s milk is easily absorbed by the skin delivering the A, B & C vitamins, as well as calcium, directly to the skin, making it a natural anti-inflammatory which soothes acne, eczema, psoriasis, and rashes. Soap made from goat’s milk is also naturally rich in restorative proteins, making it a favorite for re-hydrating and softening complexions. Goat’s milk plays an important part in skin-care. Working through our soaps, goat’s milk gently cleanses your skin without stripping and drying it, moisturizes, soothes, and plumps your skin, and soothes sensitive or allergenic skin conditions.Goat-no-background

There are many aspects to keeping healthy, vibrant, smooth skin. Your skin not only needs to be moisturized, it needs to be exfoliated – the dead skin cells broken down and removed- it needs protection against harmful bacteria, and it needs good, healthy nourishment and rejuvenation.

LESS WRINKLES?? Two constituents in goat milk, alpha-hydroxy acid and caprylic acid, both play a crucial role in rejuvenating your skin, adding vital elements of skin-care to our soap. For instance, over time your skin loses its ability to get rid of old cells fast enough. Therefore this outermost skin layer thickens, which reduces your skin’s elasticity and fresh look. Here’s where the alpha-hydoxy acids come into play, breaking down the glue holding your dead skin cells together, and thereby providing the way for your skin to easily shed those unwanted, dead layers. This results in less wrinkles and age spots, less acne, and less dry skin. Alpha-hydroxy acids also help to plump the skin and smooth fine lines. Additionally, these acids neutralize free radicals, slowing the aging process and refreshing the skin.

Caprylic acid is a fatty acid contained in goat milk that reduces alkalinity, giving goat milk soap a pH level very close to that of the skin. This enables our soap to cleanse without stripping the skin of its protective barrier of natural, necessary oils. Caprylic acid also soothes the surface tension of the skin, allowing it to be moisturized and to absorb the other healthy nutrients of the soap. In addition to alpha-hydroxy acid and caprylic acid, there are other fatty acids present in goat milk that are natural antimicrobials and antifungals which were quickly listed above. Here is the way they actually work to improve our skin:

flower24x22Vitamin A acts as an antioxidant to neutralize harmful elements in our skin, helping to prevent wrinkles, resist infection and keep your skin youthful! It also slows down the effects of aging, as manifested in your skin, and helps prevent both dryness and brown spots on your skin.

flower24x22Vitamin B12 , also found in goat milk, is essential for a variety of synthetic processes in the cells, including skin cells, and an absence of it can be detrimental for skin health.

flower24x22Vitamin E is another of the vitamins contained in goat milk that protects skin cells from free radical damage (in other words, keeps them from aging).

Consider another component of goat milk, zinc. Zinc is an essential mineral that is a component of more than thirty enzymes. Zinc contributes to the reconstruction of collagen fibers, resulting in firmer, smoother skin (collagen fibers are responsible for your skin’s strength and elasticity, and its degradation leads to wrinkles that accompany aging). Zinc also encourages moisture retention and assists in maintaining your skin’s elasticity. Is the value of goat milk as a wonderful, natural skin-care product beginning to make more sense?

Longview Farms uses fresh Nubian goat’s milk from our farm which boasts the highest fat content, giving our soaps these long lasting restorative properties!

Goat’s milk is a gift from our Creator that cannot be synthetically reproduced.  -A truly natural skin pampering product. We think goat milk soap is THE BEST kind of soap we can use, and that’s why we use goat milk in our soap!

flower24x22About the Coconut Oil

We are often asked why our soaps lather so well. The answer is found in the fluffy skin softening Coconut Oil!! As well as producing lively bubbles and that “squeaky clean” feeling, Coconut oil creates a good, hard bar of soap that won’t just “melt away” in your soap dish. More than that, though, coconut oil is an ideal skin-care oil! Since coconut oil’s molecules are small, they are easily absorbed into skin, making it the perfect moisturizer for dry or rough skin.

Coconut oil helps protect your skin from the aging effects of free radicals.  It can help to keep the skin from developing liver spots, and other blemishes caused by aging and over exposure to sunlight.  When coconut oil is absorbed into the skin and connective tissues, it helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by working to keep connective tissues strong and supple. The oil is absorbed into cell structure of the skins connective tissues, limiting the damage excessive sun exposure can cause. Coconut oil will aid in exfoliating the outer layer of dead skin cells, making the skin smoother.

Antiseptic fatty acids in coconut oil help to prevent fungal and bacterial infections in the skin to a certain extent when it is used in skin-care. Because of these qualities, coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Coconut oil is light and not greasy. It leaves your skin with a radiant, youthful and glowing sheen. This tropical oil will not clog pores and it absorbs readily into the skin so it works very well for dry, itchy or sensitive skin. Coconut oil also helps to reduce chronic skin inflammation and is soothing and healing to rashes and other skin conditions. –And Coconut oil is a significant ingredient in our Goat’s Milk Soaps!

flower24x22About the Palm Oil

The popularity of palm oil soap making has just been increasing over time. Palm oil is beneficial to soap making because it gives a soap bar the hardness while allowing it to build and maintain a creamy lather when the soap is being used. Palm oil is the largest know source of vitamin E!!

We use Organic Palm Oil as a substitute for tallow in our bars as they have a similar structural properties in producing hard bars, but Palm oil actually is good for skin, while tallow (the tissue around the kidneys and loins of the cow) is known to clog pores!!

As an important side note here –Longview Farms does not use any animal ingredients in our products!! – Save the creamy fresh goat’s milk that the goats love to give us!

flower24x22About the Olive Oil

Olive oil creates a superior soap! Unlike most of the popular substances used for soap making, olive oil does not block the natural functions of the skin while performing this task. The skin is able to continue sweating, releasing sebum, and shedding dead skin cells, all necessary functions for maintaining healthy, vibrant skin. Olive oil is high in antioxidants, including vitamin E. Antioxidants are nutritional powerhouses that protect against age-accelerating free radicals. Thus, including olive oil in our soap helps to protect against those damaging free radicals, as well as slowing aging signs such as fine lines and wrinkles. In soap, olive oil is a gentle and thorough cleanser. You might say that, as a natural soap making ingredient, olive oil is “worth its weight in gold!” Olive oil is an amazing emollient! Here are some of the highlights of olive oil in soap:

  • Olive oil soap softens and smooths your skin and is incredible for dry, sore, inflamed and sensitive skin.
  • The moisturizing qualities of olive oil soap are beneficial to people who have skin rashes, allergies, eczema and psoriasis.
  • Olive oil will not clog your pores because it is non-greasy, making it great for people who suffer from oily or Acne prone skins.
  • Olive oil contains squalene and squalane. Squalene is naturally produced by the sebum glands in the skin. The squalene and squalane work together to help prevent the skin’s natural oils from oxidizing which could lead to cell deterioration.
  • Hydroxytyrosol gives olive oil anti-inflammatory properties which research shows is good for healing skin abrasions, rashes and sunburn. The hydroxytyrosol also has antimicrobial properties.
  • Rich in vitamins and minerals, olive oil soap also contains protein, enabling the soap to replaces moisture and elasticity to the skin.

flower24x22What about Glycerin?

Glycerin is a somewhat debated ingredient. For a long time it was thought of as a cheap soap base, but it does have some good moisturizing properties. It can be a wonderfully emollient skin care product, although some glycerin based soaps can be overly harsh.

The thrilling revelation is that glycerin is naturally created and retained in our cold soap making process, so it is not necessary to introduce additional purchased glycerin. Since Glycerin is a natural bi-product of the process of making soap, our soaps have all of the moisturizing glycerin that is created by this process, therefore, adding to the moisturizing properties of the soap.  -And furthermore, Glycerin is a humectant, which draws moisture from the air to our skin!

Instead of a purchased glycerin base, our cold process soap is made from scratch with Coconut, Olive, and Palm oil –and contains their naturally occurring moisturizing glycerin in every bar.  Cold process soap is a much better aid in nourishing and moisturizing your skin since it allows the ingredients and their beneficial bi-products to remain closer to their natural state.

This leads us to our next topic…

Soaps Cut 1flower24x22What makes handcrafted soap better for you than commercial soap?

Longview Farms Natural Goat’s Milk Soaps are carefully handcrafted in small batches with only pure and beneficial ingredients. We offer soaps that are free of harsh chemicals, dyes, and additives. They are packed with moisturizing and rejuvenating ingredients which make them gentle and refreshing to your skin – and you can pronounce all of our ingredients! We use no cheap filler oils, no thinning of our luxuriant oils, no short cuts whatsoever! Homegrown herbs, essential oils, quality fragrance oils, spices, and natural mineral pigments are thoughtfully blended in with our superior base of Goat’s Milk, Coconut, Olive and Palm Oils, resulting in a bar of soap, delightful to both your senses and your health!

The biggest difference, however, between Longview Farms Natural Goat’s Milk Soaps and commercially manufactured soap is the glycerin content. Commercial soaps have most – sometimes all – of the naturally occurring glycerin removed. Glycerin is much more profitable to sell on its own than it is to leave it in soap. Liquid glycerin is used as a humectant in lotions and creams. Most commercial soap is not really soap at all. Actually, it is a detergent bar that can be harsh and drying. –And as described above, our goat’s milk bars contain all the moisturizing properties of glycerin, which naturally occurres in the soap making process, without the addition of purchased glycerin.

flower24x22About our Shampoo Bars

We are excited about our shampoo bars and so are our customers!  Each bar is a luxurious blend of nutritious oils designed to produce a clean and healthy scalp and hair with a beautiful sheen! While many shampoos contain the undesirable Sodium Lauryl Sulfate as a foaming agent, our shampoo bars have delighted our customers with their superb lather created from our Coconut Oil Blend!  Our shampoo bars are enriched with Jojoba, Almond, Avocado, and Apricot Kernel Oils, Aloe Vera Gel, and Shea butter for wonderfully clean and nourished hair.

As well as being Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate free, they contain no: Aluminum, Ammonia, and no ingredient you can’t pronounce!

Did you know that much of the shampoo on the market contains ammonia which is very harmful to your eyes? Did you know that some of the shampoo you wash your hair with finds its way into your eyes? This fact alone is what set us on a mission to create shampoo that was completely beneficial for both the hair and the rest of the body!

Try out our natural shampoo bars which do not contain any damaging ingredients and thoroughly cleanse and nourish your hair and scalp!

flower24x22Does your soap contain lye?

All soap is made with lye, including glycerin soap! It always takes 3 components to create soap –Oils/fats, Water/goat’s milk, and Lye. After soap is properly cured for 4-6 weeks, there technically is no lye remaining. The chemical process called “saponification” occurs when an acid (vegetable fats and oils) meets a base (sodium hydroxide). They react with each other to form soap.

There is no lye in the finished product of our Goat’s Milk Soaps!
